We're thrilled to collaborate with the young minds from British School in the Netherlands. Our 5-day internship program, held from July 1st to July 5th, offered a unique blend of onsite and remote learning designed to empower students with the skills and insights needed to thrive in the digital age. This program is not just about learning; it's about unleashing potential and transforming future data experts & leaders.
Day 1: Embracing Digital Transformation
On the first day, interns gathered onsite to dive deep into the world of digital transformation. Through engaging sessions and interactive discussions, they explored the strategies that businesses use to stay competitive in an ever-changing landscape. The focus was on understanding the broad impacts of digital transformation and how it drives efficiency and innovation.
Insights on Minimum Viable Product (MVP): The concept of MVP was introduced as a crucial strategy in product development. Interns learned how creating a product with just enough features to satisfy early adopters can provide valuable feedback for future iterations. This lean approach helps businesses minimize risks and optimize resources by focusing on core functionalities before scaling up. The sessions emphasized the importance of starting small, validating ideas, and iterating based on real user feedback.
Day 2: Hands-On Data Analytics
The second day continued onsite, where the spotlight shifted to data analytics. Interns participated in hands-on exercises that introduced them to practical data analysis skills. Working on real-world datasets, they learned how to interpret and leverage data to make informed decisions. This day was all about building a solid foundation in analytics, an essential skill in today's data-driven world.
We tackled the critical issue of global warming, analyzing climatic conditions worldwide using tools like Excel, R, and Python.
A key part of our learning involved mastering data cleansing techniques to address data quality issues and anomalies. I’m excited to keep learning and making an impact using technologies like SQL, Python, ETL, and CrateDB.
Day 3: Remote Learning and Agile Methodology
The third day marked the beginning of the remote segment of the program. We connected online to delve into agile methodology, a key approach for managing projects effectively. Through a combination of virtual workshops and collaborative projects, they learned the core principles of agile and how to apply them to various scenarios. This day highlighted the flexibility and adaptability that are crucial in modern workplaces.
Focus concepts were:
Learning the Fundamentals of SQL on CrateDB: Delved into the basics of SQL, a critical skill for managing and querying data.
Understanding Data Quality Anomalies: Explored common data quality issues and how to address them effectively.
Day 4: Continued Remote Collaboration
The fourth day maintained the remote format, allowing interns to further practice agile principles while continuing their data analysis projects. They worked in teams, simulating real-world remote work environments, and honed their skills in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. The experience underscored the importance of teamwork and adaptability in achieving project success.

Mastered Python notebooks, diving into the fundamentals of timeseries databases, and leveraging PowerBI to visualize the data interns have been preparing and ingesting over the past few days.
We explored data from everyone's favorite subject—movies on Netflix! 🍿 We performed various aggregations based on country, making the learning experience both fun and insightful.
Day 5: Integrating Knowledge and Wrap Up!
The final day brought students back onsite for a comprehensive review and integration of everything they had learned. They presented their projects, reflecting on their experiences and insights gained throughout the program. This concluding day was not just about showcasing their work but also about recognizing their growth and the potential they have unlocked.
